SLÖYD BUS

SLÖYD BUS •

Our next big step

This summer, we’ve achieved the next step in our multiyear strategy by purchasing a decommissioned military transport bus, gutting, cleaning and outfitting it as a mobile Slöyd workshop. The Slöyd Bus enables us to take our program on the road, complete with 10 workbenches, two instructors, and all the necessary tools and wood for kids to experience our program at any location.

Classes on the Slöyd Bus are identical to what we've provided to scores of students in our shop since 2022, except now we can bring the experience directly to our community! Our bus is equipped to accommodate 10 students accompanied by two instructors at a time. Classes are open to any child aged 5-17. Classes are 75 minutes each. The Slöyd program is designed to be ongoing. While classes can stand alone ongoing attendance allows us to connect on a deeper level with our students, providing more meaningful experience as we build the relationship.

The Slöyd Bus has been operational now for about two months, testing out new locations and times to see what works best for reaching the most kids. So far, we've welcomed nearly 150 students aboard over approximately 25 classes. Coordination is underway with four local school districts, two county 4H programs and one homeschool co-op to continue providing Slöyd as an extracurricular program .

ALL OF THIS - is thanks to you and your generosity.

Our build-out fundraiser ( 👉 ) is almost complete too! If you’re able to help sponsor a class or two, we’ll cross this first big finish line and be poised for even more exciting upgrades to our program in the very near future.

THANK YOU.
